Ghana go hear wein ! Home-based Eagles vow to stop Ghana’s Black Stars

Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State tomorrow when they take on the Home-based Super Eagles in the crucial return leg encounter to decide who qualify for the maiden edition of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) billed for Ivory Coast next year. When both sides clashed a fortnight ago at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, Ghana, it ended 3–2 in favour of the Ghanaian side, who came back from two goals to snatch a dramatic victory. But the Home-based Eagles, tutored by Okey Emordi, have vowed to turn the table against the Black Stars with the famous “Yes, we can!” campaign slogan made popular by America’s President-elect, Barack Obama, as their battle cry. “This is the maiden edition of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), so we have no reason not to qualify for the tournament. Nigeria must be in Ivory Coast for the championship. We have no excuse not to beat Ghana and qualify for the event,” declared midfielder, Isiaka Olawale, who plays his club football for Lobi Stars of Makurdi. “By the grace of God, we are going to win Ghana on (Sunday) tomorrow. I am assuring Nigerians that Ghanaians will not score any goal against us this time round. We have worked on the mistakes that led to the goals we conceded in the first leg two weeks ago,” Samaila Suleiman, who plays in the central defence, corroborated. Both Head Coach, Okey Emordi and his assistant, Erasmus Onuh, shared the same spirit as the players when Saturday Sunsport spoke with them in separate telephone chats early in the week. “We have worked so hard for the return leg and we are confident of victory,” Emordi stated. “It won’t be an easy match. Nothing in life comes easy, not even eating of food because if one makes a mistake and the food goes the wrong way, it becomes a problem.” he went on. “The players want to be part of the championship in Ivory Coast next year and they know that the only way to be there is to stop Ghana. They made mistakes in the first leg encounter and I believe they must have learnt from their mistakes. “The Ghanaians made mistakes too, which led to the goals they conceded in the first leg. Mistakes are part of the game of football,” Emordi averred. Assistant Coach, Onuh, was however more emphatic regarding tomorrow’s crucial game when Saturday Sunsport sought his opinion on what Nigerians should expect from the Eagles. “Nigerians should expect nothing short of victory on Sunday. Ghana must fall in Calabar. In fact, there would be no hiding place for them. The spirit in camp is very high, so nothing will save Ghana,” Onuh declared. Meanwhile, Coach Emordi banks on Dream Team IV Beijing Olympic silver medallist, Chibuzor Okonkwo, to fortify the Eagles’ defence. While Enyimba’s attacking duo of Ezenwa Otorogu and Steven Worgu are expected to add bite to Nigeria’s attack in the clash against Ghana. The Home-based Eagles need just a lone goal victory to book their ticket to the championship in Ivory Coast next year, as the two goals they scored in their 3–2 loss in the first leg a fortnight ago would have to count as double should final scores stand at 3–3 at the end of proceedings
