Ghana go hear wein ! Home-based Eagles vow to stop Ghana’s Black Stars

There will be no hiding place for Ghana’s Black Stars inside the main bowl of the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State tomorrow when they take on the Home-based Super Eagles in the crucial return leg encounter to decide who qualify for the maiden edition of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) billed for Ivory Coast next year. When both sides clashed a fortnight ago at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, Ghana, it ended 3–2 in favour of the Ghanaian side, who came back from two goals to snatch a dramatic victory. But the Home-based Eagles, tutored by Okey Emordi, have vowed to turn the table against the Black Stars with the famous “Yes, we can!” campaign slogan made popular by America’s President-elect, Barack Obama, as their battle cry. “This is the maiden edition of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), so we have no reason not to qualify for the tournament. Nigeria must be in Ivory Coast for the championship. We have no excuse not to beat Ghana and qualify for the event,” declared midfielder, Isiaka Olawale, who plays his club football for Lobi Stars of Makurdi. “By the grace of God, we are going to win Ghana on (Sunday) tomorrow. I am assuring Nigerians that Ghanaians will not score any goal against us this time round. We have worked on the mistakes that led to the goals we conceded in the first leg two weeks ago,” Samaila Suleiman, who plays in the central defence, corroborated. Both Head Coach, Okey Emordi and his assistant, Erasmus Onuh, shared the same spirit as the players when Saturday Sunsport spoke with them in separate telephone chats early in the week. “We have worked so hard for the return leg and we are confident of victory,” Emordi stated. “It won’t be an easy match. Nothing in life comes easy, not even eating of food because if one makes a mistake and the food goes the wrong way, it becomes a problem.” he went on. “The players want to be part of the championship in Ivory Coast next year and they know that the only way to be there is to stop Ghana. They made mistakes in the first leg encounter and I believe they must have learnt from their mistakes. “The Ghanaians made mistakes too, which led to the goals they conceded in the first leg. Mistakes are part of the game of football,” Emordi averred. Assistant Coach, Onuh, was however more emphatic regarding tomorrow’s crucial game when Saturday Sunsport sought his opinion on what Nigerians should expect from the Eagles. “Nigerians should expect nothing short of victory on Sunday. Ghana must fall in Calabar. In fact, there would be no hiding place for them. The spirit in camp is very high, so nothing will save Ghana,” Onuh declared. Meanwhile, Coach Emordi banks on Dream Team IV Beijing Olympic silver medallist, Chibuzor Okonkwo, to fortify the Eagles’ defence. While Enyimba’s attacking duo of Ezenwa Otorogu and Steven Worgu are expected to add bite to Nigeria’s attack in the clash against Ghana. The Home-based Eagles need just a lone goal victory to book their ticket to the championship in Ivory Coast next year, as the two goals they scored in their 3–2 loss in the first leg a fortnight ago would have to count as double should final scores stand at 3–3 at the end of proceedings Join discussion...

NFF May summon Bosso over Flying Eagles' ouster

NFF May summon Bosso over Flying Eagles' ouster Disappointed by the tame campaign at the maiden WAFU Under-20 Cup, also known as Ibori Cup, holding in Delta State, officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are contemplating changes in the team to avoid another calamitous outing by a Nigerian team this year, after the disastrous campaigns by the Golden Eaglets and all the female national teams in international competitions. To this end, the NFF plans to summon Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso to explain his team's loss to Senegal in the quarterfinal of the WAFU Cup over the weekend. The Flying Eagles lost to Senegal on penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw during the regulation time. And dissatisfied by the team's overall performance at the competition, sources say the NFF would begin an inquisition that could cost the coach his job. The first step towards nipping any impending disaster in Rwanda in the bud, the source said, was to invite Bosso and his assistants to Abuja to defend their selection and tactics before the NFF's technical committee and explain the circumstances behind the selection of what is considered a 'weak' team. Meanwhile, Flying Eagles former star, Ndubuisi Okosieme has described the team's quarterfinal exit at the competition as a disgrace, saying that it showed that a lot of things were wrong with the country's youth football. According to Okosieme, "it's a big shock hearing that the Flying Eagles have been knocked out of the competition in the quarter finals. I believe if they had had more time to prepare they would have scaled through.__ "In the years past, the under-20 team had been flying the colours of the country very well. The only way to make things work again is that the right people should be put in the right places.__ "When I say the right people, I am talking about the coaches and the players. We need to put things straight again in order to get the team back to where they used to be," he said.__ The former Super Eagles star is also worried that the crash to Senegal might just be a prelude to another disaster awaiting Nigeria at the African Youth Championship (AYC) in Rwanda next year.
