We’ve heard of Hollywood celebrity sex tapes. A few of us may have even seen a few famous sex tapes online – raunchy tapes of celebs like: - Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee Jones (this video was released in 1998 as one of the earliest celebrity home-made porn videos, and has been circulating on the internet till date – in case you’re wondering how graphic the tape is – I can tell you it had explicit sexual acts performed by the couple on a boat during their honeymoon - though the camera was shaking mostly, Pam rendered a compelling performance) - Collin Farrell and Nicole Narain ( Many of you remember Colin Farrell from “Phone Booth”, “Miami Vice”, “The Recruit” with Al Pacino, and as Alexander the Great in the movie “Alexander” – but a few of us remember him as the star of a 13-minute sex tape co-starring Nicole Narain - leaked on the internet in 2006. The lighting was poor, and it was surprising to notice that Colin had the camera charging while filming, making it impossible to capture great angles without the wire from the power-pack interfering. And the couple lacked the sort of experimental skills one would expect from professional entertainers.With better lighting, and maybe a few more cans of Power House - the tape would have won a "James Awards" for best use of the missionary position ) And many others, including Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and Jenna Lewis with their respective partners. Okay – my questions are: 1. Why do you think celebrities make and ‘leak’ sex tapes? 2. Do you think Nigerian celebrities will soon start making and ‘leaking’ their own home-made sex-tapes? 3. Do you know anyone who’s ever made a video of his/her sexual activities with a mobile phone or digital camera in Nigeria? 4. Do you think it is okay for a couple who are ‘madly’ in love to make their ‘private’ sex tape? 5. Which Nigerian celebrities do you think are likely to champion the sex-tape trend in Nigeria? Or have you seen any already? 6. If you were to request for the ‘leaking’ of a Nigerian celebrity sex tape – who would you want to see in it? 7. Finally, have you ever contemplated making a sex tape with your spouse before? Are you contemplating filming a sex-tape on Valentine’s day? Michael Stevenson is pleased to present a solo exhibition of photographs by Pieter Hugo. In the Nollywood series, Hugo explores the multilayered reality of the Nigerian film industry. Photographs from the series were included on the exhibition Disguise: The art of attracting and deflecting attention at Michael Stevenson in May 2008. Hugo has subsequently returned to Nigeria to extend and deepen this body of work, and the series will be published in book form by Prestel in October 2009.
