By Yinka Adegoke, Reuters Posted: 2008-12-21 11:06:06 NEW YORK (Reuters) - Warner Music Group ordered YouTube on Saturday to remove all music videos by its artists from the popular online video-sharing site after contract negotiations broke down. The order could affect hundreds of thousands of videos clips, as it covers Warner Music's recorded artists as well as the rights for songs published by its Warner/Chappell unit, which includes many artists not signed to Warner Music record labels. The talks fell apart early Saturday because Warner wants a bigger share of the huge revenue potential of YouTube's massive visitor traffic. There were no reports on what Warner was seeking. IS 2FACE AS DAFT AS HE SOUNDS??

IS 2FACE AS DAFT AS HE SOUNDS?? by Michael Uwakwe on facebook http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=35478719500&ref=nf Today at 11:04am I don’t intend to turn a bad spotlight on the admirable 2Face but this note is directed at the music industry and all those talented and hardworking people like my humble self who are passionate about excellence and strive to see that music artistes and other celebrities get the respect they work so hard for. Now, talking about 2Face Idibia, one of Africa’s most outstanding music acts from who has sold millions of records worldwide and done heavy weight collaborations with other talented artistes like Dare, R. Kelly, Beenie Man, etc. I bet I’m not the first to have noticed that the international superstar 2Face comes across as very incoherent when he speaks in public be they at interviews, press briefings and believe it or not when delivering acceptance speeches at awards. So is he so inarticulate or what? Otherwise why would he accept an award with such an inglorious speech as ‘Yes...o, I can’t believe this man...this is something else man...no be small thing, Yes o thank you thank you’. In 2007, he attempted to make an acceptance speech at the MOBOs in London where he won the award for Best African Act. He waffled away aimlessly until the award slipped off his fingers and was smashed to pieces on the floor. I think that sort of helped because he then went on to deliver his most coherent acceptance speech ever but left the stage empty handed. A couple of days ago he won yet another award at the World Music Awards. Not only did he stammer and babble through his speech. He also looked awful with tanks of sweat pouring off his face. I’ve heard many come to the conclusion that ‘the boy is not intelligent’, ‘he dropped out of school’, ‘he’s all looks and no brains’, etc. But I definitely know differently. Having attended school with him and dealt with him a couple of times since gaining stardom, I know 2Face to be sharp, quick-witted and super gifted. Those of you who’ve worked closely with him I’m sure can attest to this. What would be the problem then?? I never met any good public speaker who said speaking in public was an easy thing. And that’s probably the reason celebrities and public figures always enlist the help others. Even Obama (considered as the Demosthenes of today for his oratorical skills) employs 27 year old Jon Favreau as speechwriter. If Obama needs help with his speeches how much more for the rest of us (I should probably only speak for 2Face and myself). I know 2Face has got a lot of smart people around him, his agents, publicists, stylists, label and managers. Someone somewhere ought to wake up to their responsibilities please. It doesn’t take 10 minutes to write or an hour to rehearse an excellent 30-second speech. Neither does it take rocket science to ensure a towel or hanky is handy to take care of those embarrassing beads of sweat. This is a wakeup call to managers and agents who don’t know yet that the job of managing an artiste extends beyond managing their diary to managing every aspect of their public life. Nigerian artists dominated the MTV Africa Music Awards in abuja !
http://9janews.corank.com/tech/story/nigerian-artists-domina...

Nigerian artists dominated the MTV Africa Music Awards (the Mamas) on their own turf in the capital city Abuja, scooping six of the 10 awards. D'banj won both the artist of the year award and the best male award, crowning a successful year for the self-proclaimed "entertainer". Fellow Nigerian rapper Naeto C won best new act, while 9ice won the best Hip-hop award. Kenyan singer Wahu, who was overcome with emotion, was named best female. She tearfully dedicated the award to her husband, fellow musician Nameless, and to her daughter who, she said, "is to young to understand how much she inspires me". Fusion BBC 1Xtra's Trevor Nelson hosted the show in front of a crowd of 5,000 fans in the stylishly shaped Abuja Velodrome. The Game performed at the ceremony Nigerian duo P-Square, who had five nominations, only managed to take home one prize for best group. Despite not winning, the disappointed twin brothers thrilled the crowd with their stage act. South Africa hip-hoppers Jozi won the award for the best live performers. However, Ghanaian artist Samini revealed he was not happy the live award had gone to a "group that plays CDs and mimes". He added: "If you say 'live' then the music has to be with a band. "I'm not picking names but I think that the best live performer should go to a live band artist. "I'm sorry if I'm being harsh here but I'm trying to be straightforward. If I watch you on TV and I see you with a live band, then you better do it on stage for me." There was a cameo appearance by US rapper The Game, who gave a brief medley of his hit songs. There were also performances by the rapper's compatriots Flo-rida, and Kelly Rowland. Other live acts included Seun Kuti, 9ice, as well as HHP from South Africa, but it was the assortment collaborations that stole the show. HHP came back on stage to join Nigerian singing sensation Asa on her song Jailer, and Rowland performed alongside D'banj. But the biggest fusion was that of South African rockers Cassette, Kenyan rapper Jua Cali, and Ikechukwu and Naeto C. American R&B singer Alicia Keys gave a video acceptance speech for winning the best R&B award, as did South African band Seether, who won the best alternative award. Mama Africa The legend gong went to the late Fela Kuti, the Nigerian pioneer of Afrobeat. The award was received by the star's children, Yemi and Seun. Kelly and Nigerian artist D'banj performed together Speaking of Kuti, Nelson said: "He was the first man I ever heard, all the way from the UK, when I heard African music for the first time it came from this man. "There could only be one person, only one recipient." Kuti's children joked in their acceptance speech that they would "not take this award to him yet". "We'll keep it in our house, and when the times comes then we'll take it to him." Out of the 11 awards given out on the night the legend award was the only one that was not chosen by the fans. Winners were selected by fans sending text messages. There was also a tribute to "Mama Africa" Miriam Makeba, the South African singer who died just over a week ago. Winners each received a Golden Microphone trophy, which has a futuristic microphone emerging from a globe of the world, with the African continent symbolically placed at the top of the world. Even though this was an African event there were some non-African artists nominated in different categories, including Lil Wayne, The Game, Coldplay, and Keys. African music videos were also recognized, with Nigeria's Ikechuku winning the award for the best video for his song Wind am well. Join discussion...
